Welcome to St. Ann’s Knights of
Columbus Council #2853’s web site.
My name is Larry Robinson, and I am
the current Grand Knight of the
council.
The Knights of Columbus organization
was founded on March 29, 1882 by
Father Michael McGivney in New
Haven, Connecticut in an effort to
assist immigrant Catholic workers,
many of whom were killed on the job,
leaving their families with nothing.
I am sure he would be proud to know
we have grown into the largest
fraternal organization for male
adult Catholics in the world. Pope
John Paul II called the Knights “The
strong right arm of the Church”. The
Knights are best known for our acts
of charity, not the least of which
is our involvement with the Special
Olympics and our annual drives to
help the mentally challenged, which
our council uses to assist local
charities.
Our council was chartered on
February 22, 1942, and we serve the
parishes of St. Anne’s in Fair Lawn,
St. Leo’s in Elmwood Park, and St.
Catharine’s in Glen Rock. Our order
was also among the first to aid
families after the 09/11 terror
attacks, the natural disasters in
Haiti and Japan, and we also provide
assistance to our local parish’s
food pantries and clothing drives.
Regular business meetings are held
bi-monthly on the 1st and 3rd
Mondays of each month. Officer
meetings are held on the 2nd Monday
of the month. Starting times
for all meetings is 8:00PM unless
otherwise noted. |
